Choosing cleaning agents for industrial needs:
How to choose the right one
Industrial cleaners are not all the same, and you will quickly realise if you choose the wrong one. To achieve good cleaning results and a safe working environment, you need to think about a few basic aspects: what pH level is suitable, whether the product is compatible with the material, how effective it is, and how to use it correctly.
The right cleaning product for every cleaning task
Naturally, different cleaning operations require different means and methods. Firstly, it is important to understand the type of dirt to be removed and the material to be cleaned. Dirt can range from grease and oil to limescale, rust or dust, and each type requires a specific chemical composition to be removed effectively.
The cleaning agent also needs to be adapted to the material to be cleaned. It is always wise to check the manufacturer's recommendations and, if in doubt, test the product on a hidden surface before applying it to the whole surface. This way you can be sure that the cleaner is not corrosive, corrosive or otherwise harmful.
Acid and alkaline cleaning – when and why?
- Acidic detergents (pH 0-6): These are effective against lime, rust and mineral deposits. They are often used in sanitary areas and hard water. Acidic agents need to be used with care on sensitive materials and always rinsed off thoroughly.
- Neutral detergents (pH 6-8): These are gentle on most surfaces, but are particularly suitable for everyday cleaning of things like floors, furniture and painted surfaces.
- Basic detergents (pH 8-14): These cleaners effectively dissolve grease, oil and protein-rich dirt. They are common in industry, commercial kitchens and workshops. Here it is particularly important to check that the cleaning agent does not damage the chosen surface.
Effective cleaning relies on the right approach
Even the most effective cleaner can produce poor results if you don't know how to use it. Using too high a dose, for example, rarely cleans better. Rather, it can be expensive, wear out surfaces and have an unnecessary negative impact on the environment. Too little product, however, will not loosen the dirt as it should. The best thing to do is simply to follow the dosing instructions.
The same applies to how long the product is allowed to work. If you rinse it off too quickly, it won't work, and dirt or bacteria may remain. If you leave it on too long, the surface may be damaged or residues left behind. You can get more out of the product, and extend the life of your surfaces, just by giving it the time it needs.
The environment as part of the decision
Most people agree that we need to reduce the impact of chemicals on people and the environment. The question is how this is translated into everyday life. In industrial cleaning, where consumption is high and requirements are stringent, the choice of cleaning agents has a major impact on day-to-day sustainability efforts.
When you choose cleaning products that are biodegradable and certified with clear eco-labels, you not only reduce the direct impact on the climate. You are also signalling that environmental considerations are an integral part of your work process and not an afterthought.
